Peas and paneer are the stars of the show in this tomato-based curry. Originating in North India, Peas and Paneer Curry uses classic spices combined with tomatoes and milk or cream to make a great vegetarian meal that can be rustled up any day of the week. It is one of my favourite curries I make when I am on my own as it is easy to make in the one pot. As you only need one pot it is great to make while camping, hostelling, in a hotel room with cooking facilities and even at home (wherever home may be). If you love curries, then you will love this easy to make curry.
What is Paneer?
Paneer is an Indian cheese made from curdled milk. Curdled by a fruit or vegetable acid such as lemon juice. This cheese is great as an ingredient in a curry as it is a non-melting soft cheese.
Ingredients in Peas and Paneer Curry
The two main ingredients are peas and paneer. I prefer to use frozen peas as they don’t take long to cook but you can also use fresh peas. Plus there are tomatoes, spices and a little milk to give it a creamy taste.
How to Make Peas and Paneer Curry
Peas and Paneer Curry is an easy dish to make. After cutting up your ingredients you fry the onion and spices before adding the rest of the ingredients and cooking them together. Lastly, add the milk and let simmer for a few minutes before serving.
You can make this recipe in a camp oven by putting all ingredients, except the milk in a pot and cooking in hot coals. However, I find it best cooked in a fry pan over heat such as on a camping stove or a stove hotplate.
What to Serve Peas and Paneer Curry With
You can eat this curry on its own or serve it with naan bread or rice. You will need to make these in another pot or frypan.
What Equipment is Required to Make Peas and Paneer Curry
One of the best things about this Peas and Paneer Curry recipe is that minimal utensils are required to make it. They include:
– Chopping board (that doubles as a sink) and sharp knife
– Frypan or Pot
– Spatula or other cooking utensil to stir ingredients while cooking
– Then you need a plate and fork, spoon or spork to eat it with (though sometimes I eat it straight from the pan rather than dirty a plate).
