People often travel with a microwave in their caravan or van or use them if supplied in a hotel room. I often stay in a hotel room on road trips and I truly appreciate having a microwave. As well as allowing me to heat up a cold coffee or pre-made meal, there are things you can cook in a microwave.

There is a misconception that cooking in a microwave means your food will come out rubbery or bland looking. Well, there are microwaves and there are microwaves. As technology improves, microwaves allow you to cook some great meals. Like this microwave bacon and egg sandwich.

Microwave bacon and egg sandwiches are a great way to make breakfast quickly, particularly when you’re travelling, backpacking and camping. Sure, you can make them easily at home, but making them in a microwave in a hotel room is a perfect breakfast hack for any holiday.

I do like to make my bacon and eggs in a frying pan and often have a full English breakfast fry-up, but making them in a microwave means less dishes and it is faster to make. Plus, it tastes pretty much the same.

What You Need to Make a Bacon and Egg Sandwich

You don’t need many ingredients to make a bacon and egg sandwich. Just some bacon, an egg, mayonnaise and two slices of bread.

Customise Your Sandwich

You don’t necessary only have bacon and egg on your sandwich, you could add a burger patty, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Think BLT with egg.

How to Cook Bacon and Eggs in a Microwave?

There are some tricks to cooking bacon and eggs in a microwave. Tricks I have found include:

  • cook your bacon between 2 sheets of paper towel. The paper towel stops the fat from the bacon spitting around the microwave as the paper towel absorbs it.
  • never cook an egg left in its shell as it will explode.
  • break your egg into a cup or in a microwave safe dish for cooking.

Eat Your Bacon and Eggs in a Sandwich

You could eat your bacon and eggs on their own but I put mine on bread with a little mayo, and it was yum!

I made it into a sandwich because you cannot toast bread in a microwave. As a microwave heats the water molecules in food, with bread, it turns it into a sludgy mess.
