There’s a situation happening at the candy factory. Seems M&Ms are having colour issues.
The legendary candy brand promised to eliminate artificial dyes from the chocolatey morsels. Yep, that candy surrounding the chocolate is having an overhaul. Instead of using artificial dyes the chocolate maker will be using natural colours. Unfortunately, M&M’s executives have revealed that the process has been costly and, unfortunately, not easy.
Mars, the maker of M&Ms have been able to recreate red, orange and yellow with natural ingredients like turmeric and beets. And green with a natural dye also. However, it is blue and brown they are having problems finding natural colourings for. It seems they’ve tried spirulina to recreate blue and brown, yes, brown. Surprisingly the brown colour is created from a lot of blue dye!
As the process is proving costly blue and brown will be phased out. So don’t be surprised if a future pack of M&Ms looks a bit less, can I say, colourful! And when might this happen? I hear you ask.
Starting in August 2026, the dye-free M&Ms will be sold on Amazon, minus blue and brown. Then, if everything goes according to plan, all us candy lovers will see the full all-natural lineup sometime in 2028. So while travelling backpacking and camping, if you enjoy a few M&Ms occasionally, enjoy the blue and brown’s while you can!
