Ham and cheese pin wheels or roll ups are a great snack to make from puff pastry. Similar snack, or possibly a meal like a sausage rolls. You can enjoy them for breakfast, lunch or dinner or as an appetiser. They are such a versatile snack that kids and adults will love them. They are great after school or as an entree to a bigger meal, and great as finger food for handing out when entertaining friends.
All you need is a 1 piece of puff pasty, some ham and cheese and mustard to spread out on the pastry and voila! One piece of pastry will make about 6 pin wheels but you can make more if you cut them thinner.
And you can cook your pin wheels in a traditional oven, in a camp oven and an air fryer – they just need the right amount of heat.
How to Make Pin Wheels
First prepare your pastry. Let it thaw if it is frozen before covering it in a thin layer of mustard. Some people do prefer tomato sauce to mustard so I will leave it up to you as to which condiment you prefer. But I think they are tastier with mustard.
Once the mustard covers the pastry lay some ham on the mustard and then cover it with some grated cheese.
Then roll the pastry up and cut it into pieces. Put the pieces onto a cooking tray, glaze them with a little milk or a beaten egg and place in the oven and cook for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately as they taste great when just out of the oven.
Place the pin wheels in a hot oven and cook for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve when hot.
